There are many dangers associated with alcoholism. One of them is the possibility of alcohol poisoning which is life-threatening. When alcohol poisoning occurs, it affects the body's involuntary reflexes including breathing and the gag reflex. When someone's gag reflex isn't working a person can choke to death on their vomit. There are others signs to alcohol poisoning including slow or irregular breathing, low body temperature, extreme confusion, vomiting, bluish or pale skin and the inability to be awakened. Often times alcohol poisoning can occur from binge drinking. Some alcoholics can do well for a few days of not drinking but then when they do drink they drink in extreme excess which can lead to alcohol poisoning. No matter how much tolerance the body has to alcohol there comes a point that it just can not withstand any more and it will react like poison to the body. In reality no matter how much alcohol is drank it is poison to the body even in the smallest amount. A person does not have to resign themselves to a life of drunkenness. There is hope for someone with alcoholism that may be facing the possibility of alcohol poisoning with something called drug rehab and the treatment that is offers.
